Rugged and sleek. Urban hipster and manual laborer. Omnipresent and exclusive. Red Wing Shoes has the striking ability to be all things to all men—even the fashion forward men that shop at MartinPatrick3 in Minneapolis. The elegant work boot would seem to be an obvious match for a store that sells slim-fitting designer denim and USA-made Filson vests, but MP3 resisted, feeling Red Wings were too readily available elsewhere to rate MP3 shelf space.
Red Wing Heritage had their number(s): 9022 and 9023. These six-inch, round toe boots, which sell for $365, are a dressier Red Wing. They’re built with Red Wing's finest "Settler" leather, made from U.S. cattle hides, and manufactured in Red Wing, Minn. Launched in Japan, where American-made goods are hot commodities, the 9022 and 9023, which come in shades of walnut and brick, are making their Minnesota debut at MartinPatrick3. The only other place to buy them in the U.S. is Barneys New York (you won't find them online, either). “This felt right for us,” MartinPatrick3 store manager Erick DeLeon says. And in the spirit of walking that fine line between everyman and elite, MartinPatrick3 will celebrate Red Wing's arrival with signature cocktails, hand rolled cigars, and gourmet desserts laced with whiskey, bourbon and run. The boot party takes place Thursday, Dec. 12, 5 to 9 p.m. 212 Third Ave. N., Mpls.
