They had me at scalp massage.
Intelligent Nutrients, Horst Rechelbacher's organic beauty company, is starting to offer limited salon/spa services at its new Mall of America store. The first challenge is letting customers know: the store's two salon chairs are hidden in a back room. While the space looks nicer than a storage closet, it does feel a tiny bit makeshift. Then again, I could have been out in the parking ramp and it wouldn't have mattered, once the stylist started massaging essential oils into my scalp. Destress Express is a popular Intelligent Nutrients elixir, a calming blend of peppermint, cardamom, cinnamon, lime, and vanilla said to relieve tension, and now, Destress Express is an add-on salon treatment with a blowout. The 15-minute treatment includes oil therapy, scalp massage and oxygen bar. Yep, that's me, all hooked up and inhaling spearmint while my hair was being conditioned. The oxygen didn't do much for me, although, once in place, the nose tube didn't bug me as much as I though it would. The rest of the service was delightfully fragrant and relaxing. It left my hair feeling noticeably moisturized, and, it ended with a great blow dry. The Destress service is $25; blowout prices vary by stylist.
