Barbie is out; crayons are in. Crayola will open a family attraction called Crayola Experience at Mall of America, the iconic brand announced this morning. The interactive attraction, which will take over the Exhibit Center on the third level of the southeast court, will feature 25 hands-on activities, live entertainment, and a store offering the world's largest collection of Crayola products and souvenirs not available elsewhere.
Among the activities, visitors will get to name and wrap their own crayons, paint with melted wax, and learn how crayons are made in the live Factory Show. Crayola says the attraction is designed to be a full day of fun, with families spending four to five hours. Prices have not yet been set. Crayola plans to host private events, field trips, and birthday parties.
Mall of America will be the century-old crayon company's third location for the Crayola Experience. The original is in Easton, Penn. A second location opened July 1 in Orlando. Crayola plans to open at MOA by summer 2016. This announcement comes just a week after the Children's Museum revealed plans to open a pop-up play space at the mall.
