Kitchen and bath showroom Casa Verde Design is throwing in the towel after eight years in south Minneapolis.
Praise doesn’t always mean profits, and despite countless awards and national attention for its team’s high concept, environmentally conscious designs, business has been a struggle, says partner Susan Brunn. Casa Verde’s fate may have been sealed back in 2010, when a fire just a few doors down from the showroom, at 50th and Bryant, took out gift destination Patina for many months, and popular restaurant Heidi’s never returned to the corner.
“We had great projects, and the right clients. Just not enough of them,” Brunn says. “We just didn’t get the walk-by traffic.”
Casa Verde also sold grab-and-go home accessories and gifts. What’s left of the small pieces and custom furniture is now on sale, and priced to move: 40 percent off Simon Pearce décor, Libeco Linens, artwork and ceramics by local artists, and as much as 80 percent off upholstered furniture. The store will be open Monday through Friday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Friday and Saturday 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. through July 18, and may add some abbreviated hours through the end of the month.
Meanwhile, this is not the end for Casa Verde’s talented design team, led by Rosemary Merrill. “We look forward to continuing to create beautiful designs.” Casa Verde Design, 911 W. 50th St., Mpls., 612-353-4401
