Roll out the pink carpet: Barbie is moving in to the Mall of America, and she doesn’t travel light. The Barbie Dreamhouse Experience will open at MOA in early spring 2014, the mall announced today. It’s a 30,000-square-foot life-sized house designed with 20 pounds of glitter and 100 gallons of pink paint. The Dreamhouse comes complete with pink elevators, a closet displaying outfits from some of Barbie’s 130+ careers, a showcase of 350 collector dolls, plus animated elements, interactive games, and, of course, a store. The Dreamhouse will be located on the third floor of the old Bloomingdale’s space in the Southeast Court. It’s part of a new 65,000-square-foot entertainment center designed by EMA Entertainment that will feature three spaces for rotating exhibits. Barbie plans to stay for two years, at least.
In anticipation of the Dreamhouse, which has been in the works for months, a Barbie kiosk is already selling dolls and accessories on the third level, near the Southeast Court. Admission to the Dreamhouse Experience will be $23.99. A holiday package goes on sale today, including two tickets to the experience and a Barbie Dreamhouse Doll for $72.99.
