There are those stores we anticipate for months and months (get here already, Zara! You too, Tory Burch!), and then there are those magical moments when a sparkling gem materializes out of nowhere, with the quiet confidence to bring European fashion to an unassuming street in Mac Groveland.
Valise Boutique and Apothecary is a complete surprise, but that’s not the only reason it’s a total delight. Proprietor Angel Chandler, who wanted a creative outlet after four kids and several years in commercial real estate, has impeccable taste and a keen eye for classic style with a modern twist. The racks are dotted with timeless dresses and feminine blouses by Luisa Cerano, Raffaello Rossi, Pomandère, and other labels you won’t find elsewhere in town. It’s obvious Chandler has spent time in the pants she sells: a focused selection of figure skimming trousers and Frame denim.
“I think a lot of women in the area aren’t dressed the way they want to be because they can’t find what they want,” Chandler says.
Style doesn’t come cheap at Valise—expect to pay around $195 for trousers, $250 for tops, and $300 or more for dresses. But these are classics that feel worth the investment.
Beauty also plays a starring role at this pretty shop—with an equally chic curated assortment of skincare by exclusive lines including Arcona and Odacite, Jane Iredale makeup, and The Laundress cleaning products.
Valise opens on Saturday, and it is worth seeking out. 244 Albert St. S., St. Paul, valiseboutique.com
