Admittedly, my makeup brushes could—and should—be cleaner. I don't know why running them under soapy water feels like such an ordeal, but it just does. So a product that makes it a little easier to remove the bacteria, dust, product buildup, oil, dead skin sells, and (gulp) toilet germs from the brushes I rub all over my face every day, well, that's appealing.
And it explains Sigma Beauty selling out of its new Sigma Spa Brush Cleaning Mat in just one week. That’s a record, even for the New Brighton-based company that has mastered the social media game by simply sending its products to top beauty vloggers and bloggers.
“We had anticipated a large response and demand for this product, but we did not expect the fastest sellout we have experienced in the company,” says Sigma public relations specialist Danielle Nahan.
Sigma’s signature is makeup brushes, so cleaning products have become an important subcategory for the company—especially considering that while there are plenty cleaning solutions on the market, it's not easy to find a product designed to make the actual process of cleaning easier and more thorough.
The mat is a follow-up to the Sigma Spa Brush Cleaning Glove (which I tried once and haven’t used since). Nahan says the mat isn’t a replacement, rather, designed to fulfill a different need, which is hands-free cleaning (except, technically, you still need your hands to hold the brushes, you just don't have to wear that weird glove).
The mat suctions to the sink and is covered in different textures. Wet your brush, apply cleaning solution, and rub it on the mat. Built-up creams and powders wash out of brushes more quickly and easily than when you merely hold them under the sink. I know my brushes are now cleaner than they have been in a long time (ew), so I think this one, I really will use again.
The mat sells for $32, and Sigma Beauty expects its next shipment soon. Check the Sigma store at Mall of America or online at sigmabeauty.com
