Being tall as a supermodel doesn’t exactly sound like a handicap . . . until you try to shop for jeans. Sisters Amy Rosenthal and Allison Hultgren, 6'3'' and 5'10'' respectively, know what a struggle shopping can be. Pants can always be shortened, but it’s pretty tough to lengthen. They decided to do something about it. Their new store, Amalli Talli at Eden Prairie Center, caters to taller physiques with inseams that start at 34 inches and go all the way up to 38 inches, which as Rosenthal knows first hand, can be hard to find, even online.
Amalli Talli started off in a temporary space and just moved into a newly finished storefront on the first level of Eden Prairie Center, near Von Maur. The boutique offers a large assortment of denim from brands such as Mavi and NYDJ. Find at least 36 styles—everything from overalls and skinny jeans to colored denim, which Rosenthal says she had never been able to find in a 38 inch inseam. “I became so bitter and skeptical about shopping,” Rosenthal says. “It’s so exciting to be able to walk into a store and find things that fit really well.”
But you don’t have to tower above the crowd to shop Amalli Talli, Rosenthal emphasizes. Most of the dresses, tops, and accessories come from mainstream lines—Rosenthal and Hultgren have simply taken care to stock styles that work for longer torsos, arms, and legs. Whitney Eve, for example, by former reality star Whitney Port, tends to be well-proportioned for taller women, since the designer herself stands 5'10''. Over all, the assortment is more trendy and youthful than its main competitor, national chain Long Tall Sally.
Amalli Talli will launch its e-commerce site soon.
