Tomorrow is the final day of business for Specially Yours in Hopkins. What remains of the gifts, décor, and tableware is half off. All fixtures are on sale as well. During 13 years in downtown Hopkins, owner Cindy Shear says she’s seen business on Main Street ebb and flow, but since the departure of several contemporary stores, including Corset, Fringe and Lillian’s, there’s just not enough traffic to support a boutique. “It’s very sad,” Shear says, “but I’m ready to move on.”
Whymsy opened at the Galleria the same year as Specially Yours, and it, too, is closing. The lease demands of the Edina shopping center, which recently has welcomed several new national stores, just became unsustainable for the small boutique. Whymsy will remain open through the holidays. The farewell sale is on now, with 30 percent off storewide, including women’s clothing and holiday ornaments.
