Are you up to date on the complex dynamics of erosion? How about the mechanics of hydraulics? Yeah, neither were we . . . until we played a round of mini-golf at the Science Museum of Minnesota. This 9-hole course overlooking the Mississippi River is packed with nine informative (and entertaining!) science lessons, and it’s only five bucks after 5 p.m.


Big Stone Mini Golf

Price: $7 for adults; $6 for kids 8 and under
Artist Bruce Stillman’s quirky, impeccably crafted greens are well worth the drive out to Minnetrista. This 17-acre plot is filled with unique modernist sculptures. Don’t just take our word for it; Stillman’s wacky mini-golf course earned him a nod from The New York Times back in October.


Captain’s Course Miniature Golf

Hours: 11 a.m.-8:30 p.m.
Price: $2 per person; $4 for unlimited golf (with paid admission to the pool)
After a refreshing dip in Cascade Bay Water Park, enjoy a casual round of mini-golf at Captain’s Course. This 9-hole course is an affordable, fun idea for a lazy summer afternoon.


Centennial Lakes Park

Hours: Memorial Day through Labor Day, 10 a.m. to sunset daily
Price: $5 per person for 9 holes; $9 a person for 18 holes
Nestled in the southeastern corner of Edina, this 24-acre park features a small putting course with sand traps, gardens, and ponds. Recommended for kids aged 8 and older, you may want to leave the very little tykes at home for this one.


Eagle Lake Youth Golf Center

Opens first weekend of April (weather dependent)
Hours: 7 a.m.-10:30 p.m.
Price: $6 for adults; $5 for kids aged 8-17
In addition to the standard 18-hole miniature golf course, Eagle Lake Youth Golf Center also offers lessons so your kids can learn to putt like a pro.
