J. Chris Coetzee, MD is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon who trained in South Africa, Switzerland and the USA. He has subspecialty training in and his practice is focused on foot and ankle surgery. He is a world-renowned surgeon who has been asked to lecture and teach in more than 20 countries on all continents.
Dr. Coetzee is currently involved in clinical research, with multiple ongoing outcomes studies in foot and ankle surgery and has authored many research papers and textbook chapters. He is Assistant Editor of the Foot and Ankle international Journal and reviewer for multiple other journals.
His practice is equally divided between primary orthopedic surgery for all age groups, and complex reconstructions of previously failed surgery. Dr. Coetzee has a special interest in foot and ankle sports injuries, whether recreational or professional athletes. He has also been on the forefront of creating new guidelines for the surgical management of bunions.
Dr. Coetzee has been the chairman of the Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons instructional course on management of ankle arthritis and specifically total ankle replacement, and is also chairman of the two major educational courses of the AOFAS in 2014.
Other than orthopedics he enjoys running and skiing.
