By selling bonds and a variety of volunteer fundraising efforts, Germanic American Institute bought the Summit Avenue Haus and refurbished it to suit the needs of a Kulturhaus for social and cultural gatherings.
The Germanic-American Institute has been the ideal venue for couples looking for a charming and romantic wedding venue for over 40 years. The beautiful, lush lawn with a spectacular array of blooming flowers is the perfect setting for an outside ceremony.
The "Haus" is a magnificent, turn of the century, Georgian-style mansion. The breathtaking "Gone With The Wind" staircase from which the bridal party descends has been called the most beautiful on Summit Avenue. Charming dining rooms with grand fireplaces and elegant chandeliers provide the perfect backdrop to your festivities.
Wedding ceremonies may be held on the outside patio that is surrounded by vibrant flower gardens and stately oak tress. In the case of inclement weather, or if you would simply prefer to be indoors, the ceremony can be moved inside. Receptions may also be held either indoors and outdoors.
Our clients love the charming "Damensalon" for pre-ceremony preparation and celebration. The spacious third-floor ballroom, complete with its own bar, is the perfect place for post-dinner dancing and fun.
Whether you are opting for a more traditional or an “off the beaten path” wedding celebration, the Germanic-American Institute is happy to work with you on your very personalized wedding and reception experience.
