When mom-of-two Kerri Couillard's husband asked her to sell the unused baby gear that was taking over their garage, she decided to rent it instead and a company was born. Santa Fe-based Babierge (so named by combining the words "baby" and "concierge") rents high-end baby and toddler gear and it has just expanded to the Twin Cities metro, bringing its cribs, jogging strollers, and ExerSaucers with it.
Online rentals allow traveling families or hosting grandparents to recreate a baby or toddler’s usual setup at the click of a mouse, from full-size cribs, bed rails, and high chairs to car seats, strollers, and even toy packages. (Baby bathtub? Check. Organic crib sheets? Check. Jumperoo? Check.) The company delivers and sets up items, even putting fresh linens on the crib, and then returns to pick them up. It also sells and delivers consumables like diapers, wipes, and other toiletries. And we’re all for saving a trip to the store.
Babierge's Twin Cities Trusted Partner Yvonne Christiansen says the service is popular among grandparents preparing for a visit from the grandbabies, and among traveling families. "Parents love us because they don’t have to lug everything through the airport, and have access to items their accommodations may not offer, such as a baby tub," Christiansen says. "This on-demand access of familiar items gives them less disruption in their routine and makes for a more enjoyable vacation."
Here’s to happier vacationing babes, and less-harried grownups.
