There are 11 new ice cream flavors at the Minnesota State Fair this year. Five of them come with jalapeños, pickles, or coffee. That leaves six new, fun ice cream treats for your kids to eat before the sun sets on Sept. 7. Here's where to wow them with our Midwestern ice cream ingenuity.
At JonnyPops: Chocolate-dipped cherry on-a-spoon JonnyPop, which is fresh tart cherries and cream dipped in dark chocolate and served on a spoon, not a stick. Duh.
At Pat's Place: Caramel chocolate-dipped bacon ice cream bar, which translates to a vanilla ice cream bar with a bacon and caramel-filled center, dipped in chocolate, rolled in bacon and drizzled with more caramel.
At Key Lime Pie Bar: Chunks o' fruti frozen strawberry bar, dairy-free and gluten-free and made with real fruit.
At West End Creamery: Do wop dip. It's strawberry ice cream with real strawberries in a croissant, which is then dipped in chocolate, which is then drizzled with white chocolate, which is then eaten.
At Dippin' Dots: Dot shakes. It's a chocolate or vanilla milkshake layered with your choice of Dippin’ Dot flavors. It will still freeze your mouth off.
At Dairy Goodness Bar: Salted caramel puff malts and sundaes. This one is vanilla ice cream topped with caramel sauce and finished with salty, crunchy puffcorn. And JuiceBox has already eaten three in our dreams.
