Free Second Saturday: Garden Party @ The Bakken Museum
Saturday 11 a.m. – 4 p.m.
Make take-home crafts like sunprints and illuminated flower bouquets, get savvy about environmental toxins with live demonstrations, and explore the Bakken’s gorgeous blooming gardens.
Grand Day Parade and Kidtacular @ St. Louis Park
Saturday noon – 6 p.m.
St. Louis Park’s Parktacular Festival runs today through Sunday, but it’s totally kid-centric on Saturday. Get there for the Grand Day Parade, which starts at noon and runs along West 40th St. and Quentin Ave., then head to Wolfe Park for Kidtacular activities. On the menu: face painting and neon hairdos, seed planting, a petting zoo, a climbing wall, and a dance party led by Emmy award-winning group the Zinghoppers.
Aveda Butterfly Garden @ Minnesota Zoo
Opens Saturday. Daily admission from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.
With hundreds of butterflies fluttering amidst soothing music in a zen-like garden (complete with flowing stream), it’s beautiful—almost as beautiful as the potent calming effect it has on the children. JuiceBox tip: Wear them out at the zoo’s Big Bugs! exhibit first, then get them ready for naptime here.
Free with zoo admission: $18 for ages 13 and up, $12 for seniors and ages 3-12, and free for kids 2 and younger.
Cantus @ Lake Harriet Bandshell
Sunday 2 – 4 p.m.
On Father’s Day, you can catch the nine men of Cantus nailing classical, sacred, and pop numbers in Lake Harriet’s bandshell. JuiceBox saw these dapper a capella dudes at the Cowles Center last month, and they are totally excellent.
