You can gallivant around any of Minnesota’s 75 state parks free of charge on Saturday to celebrate National Get Outdoors Day. All of them have special activities like archery and geocaching planned, too. Check out the schedule of events.
Color Ride @ Raspberry Island Park
Saturday 11 a.m. – 2 p.m.
Akin to The Color Run on wheels, families will bike through different colored powders across the park to a color powder party at the finish line. There will be a live DJ, dancing, drinks, and a photo booth, too. It’s free! Pro tip: Unless you’d like to tie-dye the family car, bring towels or extra shirts for the ride home.
Once Upon a Mattress @ Staring Lake Amphitheatre
Saturday and Sunday, 7 – 9 p.m.
Princess Winifred the Woebegone will try to win the hand of Prince Dauntless the Drab in this summer musical rendition of The Princess and the Pea, performed by the Eden Prairie Players. Admission is free and there will be concessions available.
Family Day: Off-the-Wall @ Minneapolis Institute of Arts
Sunday 11 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
Get all 3D with the children in the galleries, from pop-up and sculpture-making to puppet shows, to hopping inside a massive balloon made for Northern Spark. Free!
Calhoun-Isles Community Band @ Como Dockside Pavilion
Sunday 7 – 8:30 p.m.
Wrap up the weekend with a lakeside concert by 90 musicians from across the Twin Cities. Free!
