Valentine’s Dance @ Audubon Rec Center
Friday, 6 – 8 pm
Spin around the dance floor at this fam-friendly Valentine’s Dance, where there will also be dinner, card making, and cookie decorating. It’s $5 per person – register online by 3 pm on February 13.
Lake Hiawatha Heart Warmer Festival @ Lake Hiawatha
Saturday, 12 – 3 pm
Take the fam for a horse-drawn hayride (above) or a skate on Lake Hiawatha, then let the children get their faces painted and play games for prizes. Also on hand: free food, cider and coffee, crafts, and a kids’ DJ for shaking out all the sillies. Oh, and ice golf. It’s free!
Tropical Beach Party @ Minnesota Zoo
Saturday, 9 am – 4 pm
It’s a trip to the beach sans sunburn. Bring your own pail and head to the Tropics Trail – sand, palm trees, exotic animals, and a scavenger hunt included. It’s free with admission, which is free for kids 2 and younger, $12 for kids ages 3-12 and adults 65 and older, and $18 for 13-64-year-olds.
Free Second Saturday @ The Bakken Museum
Saturday, 10 am – 5 pm
The kids can crank up an electrostatic generator to make their hair stand on end, check out Frankenstein’s lab, and learn how Minnesotans lived without electricity 125 years ago – more “kids have it so easy these days” fodder for us old (wise) folks.
Target Free Third Sunday @ Minnesota Children’s Museum
Sunday 9 am – 5 pm
Let the children roam the museum’s anthill, workshop, playscapes, bubble station, and more free of charge. Tip: February is historically the most crowded Free Third Sunday month, so get there early to avoid the entrance line.
Oh, and for Valentine’s Day dinner? I humbly suggest all the heart-shaped pizza your Twin Cities family can handle.
