It’s that time of year when evergreen garlands in department stores issue a silent admonition: The holidays are coming. It’s also the time of year when JuiceBox makes an annual (and annually broken) vow to complete all holiday shopping by Thanksgiving, so as to enjoy the season to the fullest. But hey, it could happen. Hope springs eternal.
We’re going to begin this weekend at two local toy stores. Here’s the scoop:
This Saturday, November 8, from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m., Peapods in St. Paul will host its second-annual Minnesota Toy Fair where you can meet local toymakers like Fairy Finery, Dundry Hill, and JuiceBox’s top-rated local toy of 2013, YOXO. For making the trek, you will also be rewarded with coffee, donuts, and double Peapods rewards points for every local toy purchased. 2290 Como Ave., St. Paul, 651-695-5559, peapods.com
Also on Saturday from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m., Kiddywampus in Hopkins will celebrate Neighborhood Toy Store Day by inviting kids to test out its latest, greatest toys, which will then inevitably be scrawled onto holiday wish lists across the land. The Ronald McDonald House Charities’ Upper Midwest chapter will receive 20 percent of the day’s retail sales, too. 1023 Main St., Hopkins, 952-926-7871, kiddywampus.com
And next Saturday, November 15, the children will meet Olaf in person at Goodthings’ “Frozen Family Saturday” event, solidifying JuiceBox’s prediction that they will never, ever let it go. Words to the wise: This frosty shindig is free, but you have to register in store by Friday, November 14 to attend.
