Sweet summer weather is upon us, Twin Cities! And dozens of outdoor celebrations are on tap to help us make the most of it. Save the dates for these kid-friendly favorites.
Claim your spots on the Hilde Performance Center lawn in the morning, then return with picnic basket in hand for an evening of family activities, beautiful music, and fireworks.
Don’t miss: The Minnesota Orchestra playing from 8:30-9:30 p.m.
It’s a daylong lineup of family activities on the shores of Lake Minnetonka, from a 1-mile Firecracker run to a sand sculpture contest, kids’ parade, and popsicle social. Stick around for a 7 p.m. concert from the Wolverines Big Band.
Don’t miss: The truly spectacular 10 p.m. fireworks show over Lake Minnetonka.
July 11 – 19
Games, concerts, food, and vendors along Main Street for days, a rockin’ parade, and the hunt for the elusive Golden Raspberry all over town.
Don't miss: Family Day on July 18. There will be a dog frisbee contest, kid activities, an arts and crafts fair along Main Street, and bands playing all day, capped off with fireworks.
July 22 – 25
What began in 1940 has become a rite of summer in the cities, from the Twin Cities River Rats water ski show to those famed fireworks. (Here’s hoping the legendary milk carton boat races will reappear in future years.)
Don't miss: The Torchlight Parade on July 22. There is something magical about an illuminated parade on a warm summer night that we never outgrow.
Loring Park will play host to organic food and cooking demos, a tasting hall of regional eats, food-focused activities, and a music lineup including Walk the Moon, Atlas Genius, and Minnesota band Hippo Campus.
Don’t miss: The Kids’ Zone, where you can paint a t-shirt, plant a take-home seed garden, and jump into a gigantic pit filled to the brim with organic cotton.
August 27 – September 7
The Great Minnesota Get-Together is our favorite place for carnival games, people watching, foods on sticks, farm animal petting, and flying down that Giant Slide.
Don’t miss: The All-Star Stunt Dogs show daily at 11 a.m., 2 p.m., and 4:30 p.m. They show off on The Ellen Show, The Tonight Show, and Animal Planet, too.
