“The bathroom oozes luxury, and you get that sense from the moment you walk in.” —Kirsten Erickson, designer, Gonyea Homes
Many luxurious spaces exemplify classic design styles with hints of vintage inspiration. This bathroom, designed for a model home by Kirsten Erickson, a designer at Gonyea Homes, is a prime example, integrating vintage design with modern functionality for a spa-like atmosphere.
To achieve the look, Erickson paired traditional materials, including white granite countertops and floors and the room’s centerpiece freestanding tub, with Victorian-inspired plumbing fixtures.
While the room’s white color palette feels bright and clean, Erickson wanted to add more visual interest. Installing a marble mosaic in the walk-through shower accomplishes the goal and also reflects the soothing gray color of the surrounding walls. The shower adds more luxury, boasting multiple showerheads and Carrara marble floors. “The bathroom oozes luxury, and you get that sense from the moment you walk in,” Erickson says.
But, she adds, a bathroom is still a utilitarian space. The design has to fit with everyday lifestyle. “They should be designed to work with you, not against you,” she says. “Once you have a strong layout that complements the way you will use the space, then you can add different materials and colors to achieve the specific look you want.”
