2014 ASID MN Showcase Home Master Bedroom
To achieve the homeowners’ hope for a “pretty but not precious” space, designer Rena Feldman curated a mix of feminine, masculine, modern, and vintage furniture and decorative elements.
The foundation of the bedroom’s appealing aesthetic is its cherry blossom wall treatment, which was inspired by a wallpaper sample and custom finished with layers of plaster and glass beads by artist Crista Maree.
“I worked closely with the homeowner and the artist to get the color and the layout of cherry blossoms perfectly,” Feldman says, calling the final result “a subtle statement and a background for other design elements in the space.”
Centering the bed between two windows on one end of the room, Feldman opened up space for a reading nook on the opposite end with French chairs reupholstered in menswear fabrics. Modern glass shelves keep books and magazines organized nearby, as do custom-made nightstands, which Feldman had découpaged with pages of favorite magazines as a surprise for the homeowners. Feldman also notes the refreshing lack of a television in the space.
“The bedroom feels intimate, inviting, warm, serene,” she says. “It’s a great space to curl up in bed with a book when you need that quiet moment, or to wake up and get ready for your day.”
