Eddie's new book, "Modern Mix."
You could say Woody Allen sealed our fate. I was in New York for the Gift Show a few summers ago when I first met tastemaker and former Top Design TV star Eddie Ross. As I was walking along Lexington Avenue on the Upper East Side, I passed Woody, who was walking in the other direction with his wife, Soon Yi. I’m not one to be starstruck, but it was definitely a New York Moment. When Eddie arrived at the restaurant we were meeting at about 10 minutes later, I blurted out, “You’ll never believe who I just saw!” “I know! Woody Allen!” Eddie said. “I was just sending my partner, Jaithan, a text about it!”
I didn’t know it then, but that’s just how things roll when you’re with Eddie. There’s always something exciting—something unexpected—that’s going to happen.
Before moving to the Twin Cities a year ago for my new job at Mpls.St.Paul Magazine, I worked with Eddie at Better Homes and Gardens. He was—and is today—the East Coast editor and I led the Home Design department. And now’s your chance to meet this awesome design talent. Eddie is in Minneapolis on Friday, November 13, to lead a tabletop workshop at Ampersand in the Galleria, where he’ll also sign copies of his new book, Modern Mix: Curating Personal Style with Chic & Accessible Finds. Mpls.St.Paul Magazine is the media partner to host Eddie’s appearance.

Fueled in part by Sour Patch Kids candy, Eddie is the master mixologist, constantly dreaming up new recipes for rooms that are as distinctly personal as they are beautiful. Eddie embodies the excitement of the “hunt,” never missing an opportunity to pass by a Salvation Army, flea market, thrift store, or yard sale. And although he’s a celebrity designer, let me assure you that Eddie is the real deal, doing whatever it takes to bring a space to life. I’ve seen him literally covered in mud trudging holiday greens into a home in Nashville, and breaking a sweat hauling and unpacking boxes of props in BHG’s photo studio in Des Moines. At home, you’re likely to find him polishing silver at midnight only to be back in the kitchen at 5 the next morning, whipping up brunch for 10.

You won’t want to miss the opportunity to meet this manic-meets-magical stylemaker. You’ll walk away with tons of tips about how to navigate yard sales and set a festive table this season, and be inspired with new ideas for using color, pattern, and mixing elements to make your home a modern expression of yourself and your family. Also, you can check out Eddie’s book, Modern Mix, at Ampersand. This gorgeous coffeetable tomb is a visual feast unto itself, divided into eight chapters that reveal Eddie’s secret sauce of decorating. Come prepared for an entertaining evening of fun, laughter, and the unexpected.
Event starts at 7 p.m., Ampersand at the Galleria, Edina, 888-431-0927, ampersandshops.com
