NO. 75 | COPPER + WALNUT
Finally, an Everlane for the furniture market. Lauren Overholser, who grew up in the industry—her parents own Design Professionals Inc. showroom at IMS—saw an opportunity just out of college when she went sofa shopping
"I couldn't find the value in the retail market that I knew existed on the wholesale side," she says. So she hired a vendor in North Carolina that her family has worked with for years to make her one. Her new online business, Copper + Walnut, which launched in December, offers stylish and well-made (the same vendor manufactures it all) furniture, with all the bells and whistles (eight-way hand-tied springs, nailhead trim, tufting) without all the markups.

NO. 76 | THE HOMESHARE
When not at The COMN, Rita Mehta is busy adding layers to the house she and her husband Matt Mach share on Minnehaha Parkway. Technically they are borrowing it— housesitting for friends John Sinna and Lindsay Grabb Sinna, who are abroad in Singapore for work with their two young daughters, Hazel and Lilly.
"John did all the furniture, we just accessorize," Mehta says. Fortunately they love each other's style. John refinishes rare finds and fixes things on visits and Rita adds layers of cool and keeps the fridge stocked with rose. Sounds like a win-win for all.

NO. 77 | EMERGENCY DECORATING
When Dr. Rebecca Cogswell was given keys to her new office at the University of Minnesota's Cardiology Division, she called her interior designer and said, "Hurry! I have one hour and a decorating budget!" Rather than purchasing the usual ergonomically correct desk and calling it, Cogswell enlisted Brooke Voss to make her windowless cube an extension of her home. They quickly came up with a navy, white, and yellow palette, and ditched the current fluorescent lighting for plug-in scones and lamps. A plush love seat, framed family pictures, and a makeshift bar stocked with Pellegrino and coffee turned so many heads walking by that already three other doctors down the hall have hired Voss.
