Cruise ships are in a position these days to reinvent themselves and Royal Caribbean had the bright idea to enlist an expert celebrity advisory board for the areas of design, sports and fitness, and entertainment. The first person announced is our girl Genevieve Gorder from Minneapolis who will oversee plans, fabrics, carpeting, and furnishings for the new Quantum class of ships, set to launch in the fall of 2014. The HGTV star will bring her eye to designing the ships's luxury staterooms, lofts, and suites.
"It’s exhilarating to work with Royal Caribbean, a brand known for pushing the envelope in ship design and innovation," said Gorder in a press statement. "This has been an incredible process, learning what it takes to make everything come together from hardware to soft goods to to little design details. This project has been like nothing I have ever worked on before and is giving me the chance to collaborate with a team of ship building experts to come up with designs that will work onboard a ship as well as inspire every guest that stays onboard. This is their home away from home and it needs to feel amazing."
Driven to create a better experience for guests, Gorder is bound to add extra color, pattern, soul, and whimsy to the decor. Follow her in action as Royal Caribbean documents the process on their site. Or, start planning your high-design cruise.
