222 Hennepin Minneapolis mspmag Explore Downtown Living
If you’ve ever considered making downtown Minneapolis your permanent residence (or your urban cabin), this Saturday is a chance to discover the options. During the Minneapolis Downtown Council’s free Explore Downtown Living event, visitors will tour 29 luxury apartments across five downtown neighborhoods, including the Central Business District, the Downtown East/Mill District, Loring Park, North Loop, and Northeast.
The setup is similar to the Parade of Homes, so visitors can tour just one apartment or a whole bunch, and can plan their day online. Local businesses will also be on hand to offer up a sense of each building’s surrounding community.
Last year’s tour helped Peter Hyman find his new home at VELO in the North Loop. “Choosing where to live was stressful, not really knowing the ins and outs of the many Minneapolis districts,” he says. “The Explore Downtown Living event gave me the opportunity to both tour wonderful buildings and to learn about the various neighborhoods! Being a city boy originally, and an empty-nester now, I chose the North Loop because it so reminded me of Greenwich Village where I had my first apartment years ago.”
Minneapolis Downtown Council vice president of marketing and events Leah Wong likens the day to a downtown adventure, affording a fresh perspective on a familiar city: “Views from the rooftops are stunning, the specials at local businesses help you discover great new shops and restaurants, and the people you meet make for a fun outing.”
