NO. 12 | DUSTY SIGNS
If you find yourself face-to-face with a sign you love, chances are it's by Dan Madsen, owner of Dusty Signs. He's been beautifying our city walls since 2007.
NO. 13 | BAUHAUS BREW LABS
There's nothing subtle about Bauhaus Brew Labs, the newest family-run taproom to join the Nordeast brewpub scene. From its bright and punchy cans to boasting one of the largest exterior signs in the Twin Cities, when the German-inspired taproom opened in July, the Schwandt and Haines families wanted the world to know. To achieve an unforgettable first impression, the owners worked with Helms Workshop in Austin, Texas, to create a branding strategy that said artistic, yet industrial; playful, yet authentic. Then they called in local artist Dan Madsen to execute their vision. Madsen spent nine days painting the exterior of the building, going over each of the 130 yellow dots—twice—to ensure the sign will endure the harsh Minnesota winters on the aged brick of the building."I spent a lot of time painting circles," says Madsen. "But it was worth it." 1315 NE Tyler St., Mpls., 612-276-6911, bauhausbrewlabs.com
NO. 14 | SOLVE
South 12th Street in Minneapolis is turning into a bit of agency row. Solve, a 3-year-old firm started by four former Carmichael Lynch and Fallon execs, now steers brands such as Bentley and Porsche. The group hired Mahsa Hansen to create their own branding and sign-painter Dan Madsen to paint it on their new wall. Gensler oversaw the interiors, from splashes of hot pink wallpaper and tiny strategy rooms to bike parking and a pull-up bar.
