At the end of each summer, I have a hard time letting go of certain seasonal white wines. These unique, nicely priced options are no exception. This month’s wines are from North Loop Wine and Spirits. 218 Washington Ave. N., Mpls., 612-338-5393, northloopwine.com
(Napa Valley, CA) $35.99
Chardonnay, grenache blanc, viognier, marsanne, roussanne, and muscat
Mannequin isn’t your typical Napa chardonnay. The nose is flowers, vanilla ice cream, and lemon, while the color is deep-yellow hay. The first thing on my tongue was fresh pineapple then rich honey. The finish is full and lush. And if you like oak in your big whites, this could be your new best friend. I’m torn between pairing it with a fresh garden salad with melon or a full rack of ribs. You tell me!
Domaine du Tariquet
(Gascogne, France) $9.99
Ugni blanc, colombard, sauvignon blanc, gros manseng
To create this amazingly fresh, clean white wine with tons of citrus and tart green apple flavors, the Tariquet vineyard in southwest France harvests the grapes straight into steel fermentation tanks. A wine of this quality is hard to find at such an affordable price point. Pair it with seafood or serve as a cocktail wine on a warm September night.
