>> There’s catfish in the park. Como Dockside has opened in the lakeside pavilion and they’ve got a distinctly Southern thing going on with catfish and sweet corn fritters, seafood boil for two, chicken fried steak, pimento cheese all over the place and a round of po’ boys that include pulled pork and fried green tomato. There’s also a full bar and a righteous listing of live music already booked through June.
>> The old Bradstreet space in the The Loews Minneapolis (formerly the Graves 601) has been totally revamped to become Apothecary. It’s much more open and airy, nearly unrecognizable from its former iteration, but there’s still a craft cocktail focus. On each table you’ll find a prescription pad where you can design your perfect Old Fashioned. Hellooo nurse.
>> Get ready for more ballpark eats, the Saints park (CHS Field) opens next week for games and hullabaloo. A little sneaky peek of the food revealed a lot of hometown pride with Snuffy’s malts, Heartland’s brats, and plenty of local beer. The fun comes in the form of glorious PicklePups (cream cheese stuffed pickles deep-fried on a stick), an absurd 7 patty burger, plus a house-smoked pulled pork sandwich that feels like at least a triple.
>> The Surly nation is gearing up for phase 2, in which the Brewer’s Table on the second floor opens on May 22. Expect it to be more of a restaurant than the taproom, but let’s not get our gowns in a bundle, you don’t need to expect “fine dining” as much as elevated plates that are constructed to go well with complex beer. The 85 seat spot will be open for dinner only, Wednesday through Sunday.
>> Everybody’s festing for the weekend!
- The art is a whirling and there’s nothing you can do about it, except listen to music, drink a lot of beer, maybe check on the progress of a certain distillery we’re all waiting for.
- Fans of a bratwurst "cakewalk" (and who isn't) are paying homage to Black Forest Inn this weekend which logs in an astounding 50 years of service. That's a tremendous thing.
- Burger bimbos are stretching and gearing up for Burger Battle on Saturday.
- Pink drinkers are heading over to Solo Vino’s Rose Tent Tasting on Sunday to get Kanskied.
>> Let’s not lie, the best kind of book launch is a cookbook launch. Saffron’s Sameh Wadi has written a gorgeous book called The Mediterranean Table and the launch party dinner is on Monday may 18. Grab your spot for $125 and get a lovely multi-course dinner of dishes directly from the book. Now that’s a demo.
