State Fair Cheese Curds
We did it. We ate all the new foods at the MN State Fair yesterday so that you wouldn't have to. There was glory and there was pain, there was sunshine and there was flippin' 11 new beers y'all! Uff da is our state motto for a reason. Don't miss our Top 5 Picks and our exclusive Get It/Skip It/Your Call Guide. But after you've corned your last dog, think about hitting a coffee-fueled flea market, a new tap room in Eagan, or a bar crawl where you can catch 'em all.
>> Now open next to The Dubliner Pub is the cafe which they've launched in the former Bonnie's Cafe space. Mourn for the loss of one of our last authentic old diners, but then move on because it's gone. The remodel of the space shows no trace, and it's quite modern and clean with muted tones. Currently they're serving only breakfast and lunch.
>> Bald Man Brewing is cheekily opening as Eagan's first brewery on Saturday, proving that there's still room in the market for a garage brewer to have a shot. Check out their lifetime founding member program if you feel like making this your home base.
>> Ryan Burnet is opening Station Pizzeria, a New York style pizza joint, in an old gas station in the Minnetonka Mills area. David Ellis is the chef and Shea will do the heavy lifting that should start some time in October.
>> Next weekish Empire Coffee & Pastry will open a second location in NE. Find them in the Highlight Center, around the corner from the Able Seedhouse & Brewery. Look for coffee, bakery, stunning pastries, and lunch.
>> Sundays and flea markets are like peas and carrots, but add coffee to the mix and you might as well bring on the pork belly. That was too many confusing food images, so just know that this Sunday there's a flea market at Five Watt Coffee. You should just go and browse for music, books, vintage things you soooo need, and those peanut butter cookies, don't forget to browse those.
>> "There's a super rare Charmander near your beer" is NOT a pick-up line. Yet. But it might be on Saturday during the Twin Cities Pokemon Pub Crawl. Dress like your favorite character, or don't, and head downtown where all the bars are near gyms and you can drink and fling pokeballs to your heart's content (and not get arrested).
>> You want to get out of town, but not that FAR out of town, and it would be great if there was beer there, right? Try this Vorspiel from Norway House where $20 gets you a bus ride up to HammerHeart Brewing in Lino Lakes on Monday, plus two short pours, 1 beer, and a hotdog form Nordic Nomad. Plus, a ride back to your car.
>> Hey next Thursday, Sept. 1, Chef Shack turns 10!! Rolling that decade by with style, the ladies and their crew will be having a Blacktop BBQ Bash from 4-9pm at the Ranch on Franklin. Go celebrate out towns' food truck OG's and #TenTruckinYears with barbecue, live music, beer, and plenty of mini donuts.
>> I want you to get on this one before it sells out. Sunday Afternoon Wine Class: Intro to Sparkling Wine at St. Genevieve on Sept. 4! Brie Roland and Erica Rokke are ladies with vim and vigor, who better to school you in the ways of the sparkle, hmmm? For $45 you get 5 wines and food pairings, hello Sunday.
