Go ahead and let loose, it's time to rally around love and rainbows (as the mother of a gay son, I will proudly fly the rainbow flag and sip painfully sweet drinks in his honor). Join in on the joy, and then scoot around town celebrating your cities by popping tokens in a new arcade bar, spelunking for cocktail rooms amongst the warehouses, or just pigging out on pizza for Pig Out Day. It's all love.
>> There are some new cool kids in town, Up Down Arcade Bar will be opening on Saturday with loads of sweet games so that you can feel righteous about your old school screen time. They throw the doors wide at 6pm and the first hundred to arrive get 20 free tokens each. This is a fully 21+ venue, don't be bringing the kiddos to teach them about Defender, but be happy to have 60 some beers on tap and quick eating bar snacks you can eat with one hand while you throw skee with the other.
>> Lawless Distilling cocktail room is open in the Seward neighborhood. Get ready for Tiki drinks, DIY cocktails, and a chill hangout in a windowless room.
>> Xavi Restaurant is now open in the former First Course space in South Minny, though they aren't serving alcohol until after July 1. Nice touch on the kids menu items, grilled cheese and like come with snap peas instead of fries.
>> Le Town Talk Diner is officially closed. The last owners, Ben and Emilie Johnson, have sold the spot to another couple who are working hard to relaunch the space as Town Talk Diner & Gastropub.
>> Seward's Co-op Creamery will close their doors on July 4th, just for a month while they renovate and reconfigure. They plan to reopen in August with a better layout.
>> Ali Shops says that Barnes & Noble will be launching a full service cafe serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner with beer and wine in the Galleria. This will be a new prototype rolling out nationally in only four locations this year. Sales for the bookseller have been lagging and so they're looking for a reason to bring people in, let's hope they read Danny Meyer's book on hospitality first.
>> YO, did you miss the fervor that is caused by the release of the New Foods at the MN State Fair this year? Well, we have them broken down into categories: Excited For, Interested In, and Worried About.
>> Former Barbette chef Sarah Masters had a rougher winter than expected up at Mr. Robert's Resort in Pengilly which she bought last year. Despite getting raves for her food, and cultivating a nicely loyal following, they didn't make the projected sales this last season and she might have to shutter if they don't get help. They've launched a GoFundMe account if you want to help a sister out, or you can support them by having dinner on June 28 at a fundraiser hosted by Red Stag Supperclub. Masters will cook a 4 course dinner with wine pairings for $100 and all the proceeds will go to save her business. It's a solid gift of a second chance in exchange for dinner.
>> Get ready for Twin Cities Pride this weekend and all the rainbow love that can be splashed around Loring Park. There are still tickets for Beer Dabbler at Pride, plus there will be all sorts of specials and fun stuff happening on the patios surrounding the park. For sure check out Lurcat's special drink menu (I rather like The Big Hairy Ginger and the Sketchy Mess) and this could be your chance to hit 4Bells, which will have cocktails in the Coop area open in the back alley. Let's hydrate, babies.
>> Especially if you have half-day Fridays, you should report to Pig Ate My Pizza today for a little pigging out. They open at noon and are offering a pizza and ice cream for $15 before they close for summer break until July 12. Also, don't forget the Travail Lakeside Party on Sunday, should be spectacular spectacular.
>> The first major food truck fest of the summer happens in Uptown on SUNDAY. Prepare thyself for lines and tasty treats on wheels.
>> Beers on Saturday! Get out of your beer rut and check into the Mixed Cultures Sour & Funk Fest at Fair State Brewing. They'll be tapping and pouring some seriously cool sour beers that will slice right through that humidity. There's a great Blueberry Lemon that wine drinkers will love, a killer Limoo that has been aged on black limes, and more for the sipping. Also, Surly releases TEN with a bash bash bash and a hog roast, and The Great Northeast Beer Carnival at Insight Brewing is ON, for coolio sake.
>> And I feel like I should mention that Monday night is movie night at Lakes & Legends Brewery, and they are screening Jaws. Also Natedogs will be there!
