Surly has opened its flagship brewing facility, taproom, restaurant, and event center today. It looks like the crowds bumrushed the ribbon cutting, in no small part for the bone marrow and smoked meats. The site is gorgeous, the brewery action very visible behind glass, and the barkeeps and cooks are ready. Bring it on Surly Nation.
The Salt Cellar is opening this weekend in St. Paul's Catherdal Hill neighborhood. I did peek in and check out the digs the other weekend, and it's lookin' swank with a terrazzo floor, dark wood bar and lots of white and green tiles. They open at 4pm for a small plates menu, with the full menu commencing at 5pm, and you can be sure that one is full of grass-fed beef and seafood chops.
The King & I Thai is being RESURRECTED!!! . . . in Mendota Heights. HA! All you city snobs who profess to love and miss the joint will have to trek it out the MH and you know what? You'll love that it has parking, you'll be happy to have your Royal Thai back, and you can Uber home (for $75).
Urban Bean has a new bun in the oven, so to speak. Look for a new location in Uptown this spring!
Do not count yourself among the pathetic for having missed these two important holiday baking pop-ups. The first is on Sunday morning at Restaurant Alma, during which you might score candy cane macarons or apple butter ribbons from 10am-2pm. The second is on Christmas Eve from 9am-Noon by Black Walnut Bakery popping up at One on One bike shop. Sarah Bottcher will give you chocolate babka, and you will have a merry day indeed.
