Merry Happy December Whatever! It's the ALL NEW YEARS EVE edition!
>> Heirloom is now open in St. Paul! Wyatt Evans, formerly of W.A. Frost has finally opened his cute little spot that pays homage to seasonal farmhouse cooking. He will be open NYE, but without too much craziness because HELLO IT'S A NEW RESTO, but you can call for a rezzie and kick it fresh into the 2016.
>> Victor's on Water, out in bucolic Excelsior, is doing it up. A prix fixe dinner of $65-$90 can be booked for 5p,7p, or 9p. After dinner there is dancing and live music in their newly opened lower Lounge with a champs toast at midnight.
>> Get your jazz in early at Vieux Carre with the Jazzland Wonderband dinner show at 5:30p, or slip in later for the 10:30p cocktail show with PaviElle.
>> Lenny Russo always does a fine deal for NYE at Heartland, with three different four course menus (Forests & Prairies, Rivers & Lakes, Farms & Fields). They usually book up fast, so get on this one, especially if you are dining with a vegetarian or vegan friend which do well here. Also of note, you can buy or reserve one of Lenny's yet-to-be-released cookbooks which will be available only at the resto until the national debut in March.
>> Saffron's NYE dinner features grilled swordfish, Indian spiced squash pasta, and roasted lamb among other tasty bits. It's $70/person with an optional $30 wine pairing.
>> Eastside is letting you choose between a five course dinner for $75 and a seven course dinner for $105. In the mix you'll find hamachi crudo, king crab salad, perhaps a juniper crusted duck breast, and the like.
>> Lurcat is putting up multiple courses (with many choices like lobster bisque, pork chops with blue cheese butter, and lamb meatballs) for $90 with a champs toast and balloon drop at midnight. Live music starts at 6:30p, and there's an after dinner dance party that starts at 10:30p.
>> Go forth into the new year with Red Wagon Pizza, with more than pizza! Two $75/person seatings, 6:30p and 9:30p, will feature six courses, each paired with a Bau Haus Brew. Fresh oysters, seared duck breast, braised short-ribs and more.
>> Parella in Uptown is fighting the dude-bro fight with two tasting menus, the early seating will be a five course shindig for $75, and the later seating will be seven courses for $95. Both include prosecco and antipasti along with choices of wood grilled quail, spaghetti with Dungeness crab, braised veal cheeks and more.
>> Smack Shack has a special NYE menu: $150 for champagne and a three course lobster boil for two people. Plus there's a midnight raffle with prizes that includes a trip to see the new Smack Shack Chicago when it opens. ALSO, they're doing brunch all day the next day, with a portion of the proceeds benefiting Sharing and Caring Hands.
>> If they only bubbles you want are the ones in beer, get tickets for Surly's Brewer's Table dinner. Choose the five course for $75 or the seven course for $105, and nosh on grilled short rib paired with Devil's Work or foe gras paired with Pentagram on nitro.
>> Get out of town! Join the ladies at Chef Shack Ranch in Bay City for a glorious night of eating that includes "Madame Rockefeller oysters" over the pit, fireside fondue and a round of entrées like duck, lamb, beef, and seafood with champagne cocktails, of course. If you need to stay close to home, the Ranch in Longfellow is doing a Bubbles + Beef deal: score the Pettycash Ranch Plate and 2 glasses of prosecco for $30.
>> Libertine is just getting down, with happy hour starting at 10pm, DJ Chris Martin, $18 bottles of bubbs, and a complimentary toast.
>> Of course the Travailians are getting hooty. Choose the early seatings (6:00 and 6:20p) for a coursed dinner with unlimited bubbs and beer for $125 (the festivities for this end promptly at 9p). Or start in at 9:30p for $100 at the cocktails and small plates party. Over at the Pig Ate My Pizza, you can do a seated dinner from 6:30-9p, of all you can jam pizza, bubbs, and booze for $45. Or join up with the crew at 9:30p and a looser party for $70.
>> If you must wear your mesh tanks and a tiger mask, here's this Studio 54 thing.
THE DAY AFTER
>> Get out to Lord Fletchers for a #WhiteOut party. Dress in white and ring in the purity of the new year with breakfast by the lake, bottomless mimosas, bloodies and screwdrivers. That should kick it off nicely.
>> The better bet would be to head over to The Birchwood Cafe for their NYD brunch which features their Good Luck Plate loaded with black eye peas.
