>> Lowertown is so HOT right now. Saint Dinette finally opened in the Rayette building (the birthplace of Aqua Net, btw) right down the block from the new Saints stadium. Tim Niver and JD Fratzke are leading the band of service pros who've all honed thier skills at The Strip Club over the last few months. The space is airy and bright with white and grey touches. The menu is wide ranging, pulling influences from Montreal to Mexico and locales in between. Here's what: the burger with house-made American cheese is legit, and the enchilada is dead sexy and will surprise you.
>> As if to prove the point, it looks like Ox Cart Ale House on Lowertown's E. 6th Street is in soft opening right now, but plans a grand opening for next Tuesday the 30th. Just driving by you see the window walls opened and many young gents enjoying some beers. The menu looks pretty chill with a fried chicken sandwich, hot pastrami, pork porterhouse with cheddar grits, and house-made sausages including a Coney Island dog with chili, pickled fresno chilies and potato crisps.
>> Uncle Franky's has a food truck this summer. It's a sweet mint bus with a decent Chicago dog. I've seen it.
>> Starting July 12th, 45th Parallel Distillery will be open on Sundays for tours at 1pm and 3pm and the tasting room will be open from 12-5pm. Road trip for a little Border Boubon and New Richmond Rye, I say.
>> The Four Firkins is closing this weekend, both locations will shutter, Oakdale today and SLP on Saturday. Jason Alvey has been a stalwart for craft beer and for that I thank him. I also appreciate all that he has done for Sunday Sales, and I hope when it finally goes through he knows that it was in large part due to his pushing. Some retailers, such as Ace Spirits in Hopkins have offered to honor outstanding FF gift cards in part.
>> Also, Toby Keith's I Love This Bar not feeling the love so much anymore.
>> Last Saturday night, far away in Colorado, the local team of Corner Table peeps handily walked away as national champs with a big golden pig, winning the title of King of Porc from the Grand Cochon competition. How did they do it? Lots of pork fat and a mini-van. Get judgey yourself, starting Saturday you can order the Judge's Table tasting menu with all five dishes that took them to the crown.
>> You only have a few more days to pre-order your July 4th goodies from the new St. Paul Meat Shop. Deadline is June 27th for orders of cheddar brats, spicy hot dogs, pretzel burger buns, skirt steaks, spare ribs and a whole mess of pies.
>> Didja hear? There's 40+ New Foods at the State Fair for 2015. You only have 60 some days to look for your elite stretchy pants.
>> Hey sportsfans, are you watching the Women's World Cup? Our US Womens National Team (#USWNT) is one of the best teams on the planet and actually have a shot of taking the Big Win. Tune in tonight at 7pm to cheer them on against China. You can do this at Day Block Brewing which will have both pizza AND beer AND the game on starting at 6:30pm. Lady Footie deserves your attention, yo.
>> Sunday might be fun. Let's start with the Brews and Blues beer festival with live music and lots beer on Nicollet Island, and then head over to Uptown for the second MN Food Truck Fair, yeah? Maybe in the middle of it all you can head over to Bryant Lake Bowl to catch the screening of the documentary Blood, Sweat, and Beer which follows the struggles and celebrations of a couple of startup breweries.
>> It's time to cut the cabbage way out in Henderson. Sauerkraut Days starts today and lasts all weekend with festy fun times incluing a cabbage toss, a kraut eating contest, and Owl Parade (natch), bean bag tournament, softball, 5K, bingo and all the goodly kraut you can eat. Seriously though, one of the most fun festivals this summer, worth the drive.
>> Also, it's PRIDE weekend!! The Pride Beer Dabbler pairing food trucks with local breweries is not to be missed among all the fun. Big unicorn kisses out to my own dazzling gay kid who has never been anything but cooler than the rest of us. Let's just never date any more boys that drink wine through straws, k?
