It would be hard to guess that this sleek downtown Far East-meets-Mexico hybrid is located in a former chain restaurant space in St. Paul. The bigger surprise is that Señor Wong gets it right with a meandering menu that features renditions of mostly Pan-Asian and Mexican dishes with a few entrée twists such as yuzu duck breast ($18) and Negro Modelo–braised pork ($15). However, the real action happens during event nights such as Kung Fu Funk Thursdays, which feature Hong Kong action films along with excellent drink and food specials (in the lounge area only). Of particular note are the pinchitos morunos—grilled pork skewers with a lively coriander sauce ($4) or Sichuan dumplings with jalapenos ($6.50). Viva la honky kong.
