The Buttered Tin is a fresh new breakfast and lunch place in Lowertown that’s quickly becoming a neighborhood gathering spot. Eaters are finding bacon-decked pancakes and generous sandwiches made with local ingredients via chef Jason Schellin. You can watch co-owner Alicia Hinze through the bakery window as she decorates gorgeous cakes, cupcakes, and other treats for which she earned a winning reputation and top prize on Cupcake Wars.
The old Seward Co-op building is alive again as Verdant Tea, an airy and modern tea tasting room. It’s all farm-to-cup: The teas on the menu come from small family farms and are served in handmade bowls. A light vegetarian menu complements the teas, as does a tasty list of Sweet Science ice creams and Real Deal chocolates.
Tucked in the back of French Meadow, Bluestem Bar & Table has debuted as the newest wine bar on the block. With fresh natural colors, a bright blue-tiled bar, booth seating, and a hidden private dining space, it seriously ups the game at the sleepy bakery café. The menu has small plates fitting the biodynamic wines on the list, but there are also a few burgers and fuller meals to make it more of an evening spot.
Sadly, after 99 years in business, the iconic Peter’s Grill has closed its doors.
