A few weeks ago I learned of a project, where Heartland would relocate to the St. Paul Farmers Market. Lenny Russo, chef and co-owner of Heartland, asked me to keep mum because he still had ducks that needed to sit in more of a row before he could talk about it. I see this as a win-win situation. There are several more bells and whistles that, once nailed down, will make this place even cooler than anyone can say as of this date.
The issue for me will be simple. How many of you will shop there? How many of you will change your once a week grocery store habits enough to embrace this market and restaurant concept. With mail order, wholesale, and other potential revenue streams, Russo can brace for impact in case the general buying public doesn’t show up in BIG numbers. But show up we must if we want to see amazing ambitious steps to improve our city life.
Also, bravo, St. Paul, for making this happen. Now if we can just get the Vikes to build a stadium behind Red’s Savoy Pizza, the River City will be rocking for sure. Lenny was ahead of his time with the original Heartland; he was ahead of his time with Blackberry Creek and with everything in between. He is a prescient kind of guy. I am hoping he has timed the wave perfectly on this one.
