While setting up for a Twin Cities Live segment on new restaurants in the metro, I was surprised that Ryan Aberle wasn't the one proofing the Purple Sandpiper dishes. Instead, Eric Meyer was there plating and he told me that Aberle was no longer a part of the restaurant.
Aberle, who first developed a foodie following for his tasting menus at NorthCoast, had earlier this year been the opening chef behind Ringo. That proved a short stint, but his name resurfaced this Fall with the introduction of Purple Sandpiper, a food-worthy Bloomington gastropub with an adventurous menu including Aberle's hallmark tasting menus.
According to Meyer, Aberle's reign ended abruptly last Sunday. Indeed, his name and bio have been removed from the website.
