A steak at The Salt Cellar in St. Paul, Minnesota
Last weekend was the final weekend for business at The Salt Cellar on Selby. The throw-back steakhouse has closed, but the owners are planning to re-concept and re-open. The restaurant struggled with consistency and value early on, but it seemed like the bar area had become a good hang for some in the neighborhood. There's been a lot of talk about installing a rooftop patio on the space, maybe that's all a part of this phase 2. No information has been given regarding forager chef Alan Bergo and whether or not he'll stay on through the new digs.
Zio Cucina & Bar
And Zio Italian has closed at the Mall of America after about eight months in business. Remember when Kaskaid bought the rights to Figlio and then opened it at West End? And then they closed it, because they said people wanted a lighter, fresher Italian restaurant, which they were planning to open at MOA. Guess that wasn't it either. Zio was very pretty, and it read really great on paper, but the food never lived up to the font. Sibling Burger Burger is still open next door.
