My oh my, the debut of this list means we are getting closer to the Great Minnesota Get Together! This year the list is a DOOZY! Let’s just get to some of the highlights . . . full list is featured below.
Famous Dave’s is coming out with Buffalo’d Bones, St. Louis style spare ribs fried and tossed in Buffalo wing sauce.
Hot Indian is making its debut at the fair, and bringing GAME! Butter chicken samosas, the popular Indi frites, and chicken Tikka-on-a-Stikka.
The kids at Blue Moon have won us over with various sweets, and this year they’ll try with chilled bread pudding: served sundae-style with a warm glaze and choice of crunchy “Moon Gravel” adornments, like granola crunch and cinnamon churros. The bread pudding itself comes in flavors like old fashioned challah, brownie batter, corn bread, even gluten-free.
JonnyPops is bucking the trend by serving up dark chocolate dipped cherries-on-a-spoon. #SpoonBridgeHomage
The Frontier Bar has Cowboy Bites, which will be sweet corn, bacon, jalapeños, and cream cheese all blended together and balled, then deep fried and on-a-sticked. For some reason I feel like this is going to be a hit. Don’t deny the power of cream cheese.
The Blue Barn is putting up a lot of new things in its sophomore year. Cowboy Dave’s Cluck and Moo looks like a roast beef and grilled chicken dinner, Grandma Deb’s Snicker Bar Salad is chopped Snickers with apples in vanilla pudding (ah, the MN “salad”), Up Nort Shoreman’s Lunch is exactly that, and meatloaf hash comes topped with scrambled eggs and béarnaise sauce. Is this the first béarnaise at the fair?
West End Creamery comes out with Doo Wop Dip, which is fresh strawberry ice cream in a croissant, dipped in chocolate?
Mancini’s is bringing pizza? Grilled Venetian-Style Pizza will be grilled over an open flame and come in Farm Fresh with arugula and goat cheese, Margherita, and Spicy Salami. Where’s the steak pizza?
Also new to the gig is The Rabbit Hole and they’ll have Hot Tail: roasted pig tails in ginger scallion sauce. But also, kimchi 'n curry poutine with braised pork and poached egg, cubed watermelon, and herbs in a chili lime honey sauce called A Salad Named Soo.
O’Garas will ply its beer drinkers with Limerick Stix, which seem like spicy pimento cheese sticks deep fried and served with dipping sauce. That could be great, depending on execution.
Lulu’s Public House is tricking us with mac 'n cheese cupcakes. It’s mac in a breadcrumb crust and then “frosted” with a dollop of Cheez Whiz. Lord have mercy. They also have a wild rice benedict muffin with sliced ham, soft-cooked egg, and hollandaise.
I’m not mad at the maple bacon funnel cakes from Funnel Cakes.
French Meadow is keeping it simple with a pretzel croissant sandwich topped with chicken, ham, swiss cheese, and spinach with honey mustard and chive aioli.
Sara’s Tipsy Pies debuts at the fair with five kinds of hand pies that all have a boozy component (baked out, babe, you’re safe): Rhubarb Blue Hunny Do, 2 Gingers Irish Apple, Bapple (blueberries and apple), Maple Bacon Apple Breakfast, Salted Caramel Apple.
The hot ladies of Sausage Sister are throwing down with Sausage Sister Sriracha Sliders: Monterey Jack-stuffed spicy meatballs on a crusty slider bun with hot 'n sweet sauce.
Shanghaied Henri’s is going crazy with International Tacos this year: Korean BBQ Beef Taco with kimchi and rice noodles; Oslo Taco with pork, Jarslburg cheese and lingonberry relish sour cream and cracklins; St. Paul Taco has Summit-braised brisket, with slaw and bacon bits; Yucatan Taco comes with chicken chorizo braised in tequila with queso fresco and cilantro sour cream. Yowza. Also: smoked gouda cheese nachos.
Green Mill is doing stuffed Italian meatloaf on-a-stick, with the stuffing being mozzarella and pepperoni and the sauce being marinara.
Finally, Boulevard Grill is dishing up totchos.
And Giggles' will line them up, no doubt, for walleye stuffed mushrooms.
