I love it when good stuff happens in the habitrail. La Loma has opened in the Northstar sub-skyway food court in Minneapolis.
La Loma is a homegrown success story, winning the Entrepreneur of Year Award from the NACCE last year. Taking over the old El Burrito window, they are now serving their amazing tamales and more to the already in-queue downtown lunchers.
I popped over today and stood in line for my Oaxacan tamale and chilaquiles. The guy in front of me said he had already been there yesterday and eaten three tamales and some tacos. That's a feat, because the tamales are substantial and a steal, I might add, at $3.15.
The chilaquiles had a great green sauce (you can get them rojo if you want), and the tamale was spicy and rich without being greasy. Bonus No. 1: Mexican Coke in the bottle. Bonus No. 2: Frozen tamales available for take-home so the hub won't be jealous when you talk about your lunch.
