Are you of the same ilk as me? Right around the 3 p.m. hour, do you begin to crave a beverage (or at least a walk from your computer to procure a beverage)? Here's where I get stuck, because I usually want something refreshing, but I also want a little caffeine bump. Thusly, I get wracked between kombucha or coffee. Health vs. Buzz. For at least a few months, we won’t have to decide.
Dunn Bros. has felt the pain of our beverage tribe, and responded. Starting Monday, as part of their spring bevvie program, they are launching a citrus kombucha cold press coffee drink. Praise the mushroom juice.
I got a sneak sip of this tasty beverage, and I can tell you, it hits all the notes. Dark and sultry Infinite Black cold press is boosted with just a touch of agave sweetener, then hit with orange essence and lemon kombucha. The whole thing is shaken to order and served over ice, which is a new level of service for this coffee shop collection. Wow, it's a zinger. The orange brings out the brightness of the cold press and the kombucha adds some pep. It tastes like the very cusp we are on: darkness and light.
We can thank Emily Sheppard, Dunn Bros.' new beverage innovator, for working with the owners who invented the drink, to refine the process and make it doable for all 80+ locations. Sheppard, a local who has cut her chops in the Brooklyn beverage scene for the last few years, is already hot at work on the summer specialty beverages.
Which is to say, this one is a limited stunner. Get it starting Monday until the end of May.
