This Fresh Forkin' Friday I am geeking out on HP7, sorry. I will freely out Sarah Howard and Nina Holmberg as my office-mates who have been passing freaky HP links back and forth the last few days. How far does it go? Did all my teenagers go to the midnight showing last night? Yes. Was one seriously dressed as Lord Voldemort, taking 3rd place in a costume contest? Check. Am I making a batch of Butterbeer tonight to toast before we head out for what will be the first in a series of weekend showings? Duh.
1 c. dulce de leche
2 T. water
6 T. butter
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. lemon juice
3/4 c. heavy cream
1/2 tsp. cardamom
4 bottle of cream soda
Over med heat in small sauce pan, combine dulce and water, stirring to warm and thin, but not boil. Stir in butter, salt, lemon juice, 1/4 c. of cream, and cardamom . Set aside and cool.
In mixing bowl, combine 2 T. of dulce mixture with remaining 1/2 c. cream. Beat until just thickened, but not completely whipped.
To serve, divide the dulce mix among four glasses, add a bit of cream soda and stir to combine. Fill glass to the top with remaining cream soda and top with whipped crea. Cast spells, argue quidditch moves, revel in geeky glory.
If you're sick of the standing-and-slurping version of lobster roll eating, Smack Shack hears you, brother. Starting TONIGHT, the Smack Shack's full menu will be available at the 1029 Bar in Nordeast.
The Inn is now open.
Pizzeria Lola opened up on Tuesday with a snappy little copper oven from France! I'm diggin' the names of the pizzas, My Sha-Roni (with natural casing pepperoni and Berkshire sausage) and The Breakfast (La Quercia guanciale and a soft egg) in particular.
Pinstripes will open this weekend to much bowling, bocce, and frivolity. Centennial Lakes needs a place that you can get a jumbo lump crab cake and neat game of ten-pin. Carry on.
Mozza Mia will be open on Monday with their splendiferous mozzarella bar. I hope there's no cat-wankers on the menu. Or on the wall. Or in the bathroom.
Get thee to Meritage for one more round of frites before they close on Sunday for the construction that will bring about .... voila, zee oyster bar! Two weeks until bivalves.
Slow Food MN is doing a guided chocolate tasting this Sunday with Kallari Chocolate, part of the Cacao Nacional cooperative and one of the world's finest chocolates. There will be a blind tasting that will compare Kallari chocolate against European chocolate, American chocolate, and Snickers. Not really.
If you're getting ready for The Feast, this weekend is your kind of boot camp at Cooks of Crocus Hill. The Open House on Saturday is filled with mini-cooking classes (sides!), samplings, discounts on gear, and the chance to pick up a heritage breed turkey.
It's also important to know that this Saturday is the first winter market at Local D'Lish, featuring the sellers from Mill City Farmers Market. Time to get some of those hallmark items that will make your feast table shine.
