Happy Freaky Forkin' Friday before Halloween! I know some people have a hard time reconciling their anti-HFCS beliefs with this holiday, but if ever there was a time to take a break and soften your hard line, it would be the day that people give out free candy. This year my 7 year old's costume is all on his own. Last year it was a skeleton (made with white duct tape on black clothing), and this year he decided he wanted to be "that colonel chicken guy". Yes, my kid is going to be Colonel Sanders for Halloween. And of course we have an old waiter jacket and will glue some cotton balls on his face in goatee fashion, but the REAL kicker is that he wants to walk around with a bucket of chicken, offering it to the people who give him really good candy. This is a win-win for me. For the ultra-organic neighbors, really what could be scarier, the colonel = the devil. And for the good-timers, well . . . hey, free chicken!**
Scusi from the Blue Plate gang, opens on Monday at 4 p.m. in the old Heartland space. With a light scrubbing, the joint has been turned into a comfortable wine bar and pizza kitchen with Roman crust pies, house made pastas, and affordable wine on tap. Yes, on tap. If you want to check out a preview, we did a little sneaky peek on Twin Cities Live the other day.
The cute little Creamery B&B in Wisconsin closed this week.

** I can't stop saying in my head: I hated the Colonel with his wee beady eyes . . . oh you're gonna buy my chicken . . . He puts in an addictive chemical in his chicken that makes ya crave it fortnightly, smartarse.
