It's hard to write a food blog on the day after Thanksgiving. Really, all I want to do is sit around and watch the Muppets do Bohemian Rhapsody while I pretend I don't know where my running shoes have gone. I will admit to being on my second turkey sandwich, the first one eaten late Thursday night during a screening of White Christmas with my teenagers. I have a minor law in my house that nothing Chistmasy may be watched, listened to, or created until after Thanksgiving (give The Feast its proper due, I say). But now, it's on. Baking cookies, throwing cocktail parties, mulling wine, bring it. But not today, I've got to catch up on Glee.
Mrs. Kelly's 16th Annual Charity Tea Tasting is coming up on December 5th and 6th. This once-a-year open house invites you into Mindy's warehouse to sample over 100 of her freshly blended teas. Plus you can do some holiday shopping with other local vendors, such as B.T. McElrath, Bramblewood Cottage, Muddy Paws Cheesecake, and Edna's Caramels. A suggested dooor donation of $2 or a canned good will go to Second Harvest and Perspectives Kids Cafe.
Cutting carbs after the holiday? Park your keester at Chino Latino's Global Meat Party. Every day from 4:30 - 6:30, early carnivores will be treated to three dishes for $12 from the meat party menu: Chinese BBQ ribs, jerked shrimp skewers, Thai wings, kalbi short ribs, and chorizo sausage with peppers and onions.
Those with fancier intentions may want to stake out a table at Barbette for Champagne Thursdays. From 6 p.m. to 1 a.m., now through January, selected bubblies will be available at wine shop prices by the bottle and by the glass.
