Butcher & The Boar, y'all. Finally it's open and in full meat and whiskey glory. It's manly rustic but not too heavy handed, first sips and nibbles were enticing. I did leave there last night smelling a bit like a camp fire, which was just fine with me.
The Fulton Brewery taproom will be open for business starting Saturday at noon. Head over and sip some Lonely Blonde, Sweet Child O'Vine, and Worthy Adversary while you nosh on some tacos from the guest-starring Barrio truck. Hours will be Fri./Sat. through March, but come April they'll expand for all you homer hankee wavers.
New food trucks will be popping up like daisies this season. Street intel says that Little G's is a new wood fired pizza truck serving whole individual pies for under $10.CHANGES
Oh my the trouble with Jack's. It seems the Kevin Kathman take-over didn't stick, and the talented chef and his team have vacated the kitchen. There's a lot of mud being slung in both directions, but I think it's a bit unbecoming to play that out in the webiverse. So we'll leave it at this: The brilliant cooking that was happening there, isn't anymore. The menu is returning to a more casual state with wider appeal.COMING SOON
What will be taking the place of Cafe 28 in the sleepy hamlet of Linden Hills? Harriet Brasserie!**** I like the idea of filling your head as you fill your gut. Next Tuesday night you can hit up the little sandwiches at The Amsterdam while you take in Beaker & Brush, a discussion with Piccolo's Doug Flicker and the U of M's Dr. Gary Reineccius about the intersection of magic, art, and science in modern gastronomy. And, it's free! ***** La Belle Vie is hosting a Chocolate Dinner with BonaVita chocolates on April 5th. It's not cheap, $130, but the five course tasting menu will highlight both sweet and savory dishes and wine, beer, and liqueur pairings. A little more accessible might be this Sunday's Taste of Chocolate which has been running for 17 years! Tickets are $30 at the door and choco-wizards include Sweets Bakeshop, St. Croix Chocolate Company, and Groveland Confections among others. ***** Old Chicago in EP is getting a make-over that will herald the beginning of a new era for the company nation-wide. They have a fat beer selection and are super kid-friendly, I like them for that. If you do too, you should show up on Monday, March 19th at 10:45 for the ribbon cutting ceremony because the first 100 people will get free pizza for a year. Wowza. ***** This is for you today: Cooks & Chefs
