Last night I went to an Odell beer dinner at Pig n' Fiddle for a friend's birthday. It was great, loved the Saboteur, dug the rillette and pork belly pairings, it was a crazy fun night! We did, however, lose a member of our party to a family emergency, but they kept setting down beers in his place. Couple that with one member of our now five-top getting over a cold, another being a responsible driver, and me being a responsible editor with work left to do at the end of the evening, and the half-full glasses began to pile up. By the way, these weren't all tasting portions, some were full pints (god bless 'em), but we left men all over battlefield, ducks on the pond. I know I have nothing to prove, no need to slog back the glasses to show I'm not some old hag, my twenties were legend. But this Fresh Forkin' Friday, at the front of a big beer weekend, I do want to apologize to the beer gods. A tasty beverage is a terrible thing to waste.
Saigon Restaurant in St. Paul is re-opening this weekend. No, I swear it's not a trick, at least I think it's not a trick. There's been remodeling, so maybe they will actually open, and stay open for the love of pho.
O' Gara's has spiffed up the Garage and is relaunching it as The Shanty with vintage bar signs, a new look, and shuffle board. The official launch is next weekend, which should feature all sorts of deals, music, and ballyhoo.
Amici Restaurant in Nordeast has closed.
Cute little Q Kindness Cafe has closed, too.
And Muddy Pig is still kicking the IBUs with their Festival of Hops which goes through Sunday. Over 64 taps will deliver pale ales, IPA, and anything hoptacular.
Gents, this is fair warning. Right now you still have time to reserve space at the Chowgirls Locavore Love Affair dinner for Valentine's Day. It will sell out. Don't be that guy that calls me on the 13th looking for recommendations ... I laugh at him.
Looking for a little comfort this weekend? Check out the Arboretum's Winter Hearty on Sunday the 29th. The $40 ticket will get you all sorts of sausage, sliders, stews, and brews from local restaurants and breweries.
