It's Fresh Forkin' Friday and I'm scouting some good beer for the weekend, because I am on holiday! That means that I will be glass in hand, waterside, as soon as I finish typing this. And after all the work we've done on the big-time-badass August food issue, I deserve a frosty beverage. So I happened to be in St. Paul (I know!) when I stumbled upon the Wine Thief's new annex called the Ale Jail. I feel like I walk into so many wine/beer stores that tout their cool brew selections only to be saddened. A test: Do they carry Hitachino? Yes they do! Do they have any Ephemere? Yes they do! Plus a whole truckload of Belgians, locals, coastals, and a new bourbon barrel stout from Sprecher called Czar Brew that I'll dig into once we cool back into the 60's. St.Paulies who can't imagine making the trip to Four Firkins, rejoice.
Parma8200 has indeed opened in the backyard of Bloomington's Kincaid's. Interesting. The menu is chocked full of classic goodies like tomato bruschetta (bonus: add burrata), linguine with clams, and pork tenderloin agrodolce. Watch out, Wednesday special is porchetta for all you trendsters out there.
Harvest Moon, the little co-op that could, is open in Long Lake.
Chef Shack has opened for lunch on M/W/F at 5th and Hennepin in Downtown Mpls. Huzzah, huzzah, the street scene has arrived.
Rice Paper has closed in order to move into their new space in the 50th/France neighborhood. The new resto will be behind the D'Amico & Sons, and plans to re-open sometime later this summer.
Bambu sent out an email earlier this week saying they were closing and looking for a new location. But hail mary, they've worked out a new lease and will remain open in their current digs. So, NOT closing.
Dean Vlahos, the man who brought us Chammps and Redstone, is opening a new concept called BLVD Kitchen & Bar in Minnetonka. The former Don Pablos spot will be remade into an American resto with steaks, seafood, pasta, pizza, gourmet hot dogs, burgers and sadwiches. Come one. Come all.
Tom Pham, the man who brought us Azia and ThanhDo, is talking about tackling the "cursed" spot on Hennepin/6th that was lastly Zake, nee Musashi, and even once a failed Olive Garden. He's thinking about making it into Wanderer's Wondrous Azian Kitchen where Asian fusion would magically reverse all evil spells.
Now go forth, cook, eat, and be merry. And come out to BT's Party in the Park stage at the Taste of MN and see me on Sunday!
