This Fresh Forkin' Friday I'm fine with the rain. I'm good with it being a bit soggy this weekend because I am crafting all sorts of nonsense for the first big bonfire of the year, but I'm not ready yet. I'm considering what will happen if I soak homemade marshmallows in bourbon before I hold them over the fire. I'm deciding if I should buy a new cast iron pan as the one from last year was left out by the fire pit all winter and does not look happy at all. I'm working on some new fruit in tinfoil neslted in the ashes situation which plays off the banana boat dreams of summers past. Smoreos? Y'all know it. But what about a Nutter Butter equation? This could get crazy. I need another weekend.
By now you've heard all about the potentially massive eating complex planned for the airport that will feature concepts from local chefs. I find it SO interesting that the big concept names in town (D'Amico, Parasole, Blue Plate) weren't invited to the party.
It seems that the downtown Shinders space might FINALLY get the restaurant that it's been wanting for years. Voldy seems to think that it might soon house a new concept from an old restauranteur who still has an Edina connection.
Ja wohl, it's Spargelfest time! The German celebration of all things asparagus kicks off this weekend at Black Forest Inn. Not only can you register to win a CSA share, but you can enjoy spargel perogi, spargel and rhubarb strudel, even a sip on a spargeltini (insert pee joke here).
The fabulous art fest Art-A-Whirl is happening all over Nordeast this weekend. While there really is no epicenter of action, my two gut-driven picks include the Surly soaked stage outside of PD's Create Catering (where there might be pulled pork sammies or like minded nosh) and the whole street of 13th where you should start with crepes in the back of Two12 Pottery and crawl down the block hitting Chowgirls (selling pork tacos outside the Ritz), Anchor, Erte, Northeast Social, etc. I'm worried about the volume of people on the Psycho Suzies and Sample Room patios, but that's where the action will be. Also stop in to the 1029 bar for a little lobster boil love from team Smack Shack.
Cook's of Crocus Hill wants to help get your deck or patio ready for some serious chillaxin. The Patio Prep event this weekend consists of some 10$ mini classes called Grill of My Dreams and Salsas & Sangrias which should set anyone up for summer success. BONUS: the shops are also having a cookbook sale this weekend, time to stock up with some titles up to 25% off.
Head out west to Nature's Nest Farm art festival and farmers market this weekend. Get your plants, pets some goats, play with the giant slingshot (oh yeah), race in a gunny sack, just cut loose and breathe in the fun.
