I think I must have eaten 642 Rolos (Roli?) yesterday while watching Kung Fu Panda for the fortieth time. Hopefully everyone is just spending their Fresh Forkin' Friday steeping in holiday merriment and chilling out. If your office is open and you're forced to put in the required face time, I do hope you can at least play a little office chair hockey or hide the Hickory Farms cheese food in the accounting department or have a vending machine booya. Minimally, you should bring in all the horrible Christmas cookies you've received and place little deliveries on the chairs of all those who got the day off. You sneaky little elf, you.
The Front, a NE Minneapolis club, which recalls hazy memories for me, has retooled itself as The Front Cafe. Apparently, chef Rolando Diaz has created a blended American/Latin menu full of favorites such as arroz con pollo, shrimp risotto, island pizza with pineapple, taquitos, and crab cakes.
Brookside Bar & Grill in Marine-on-the-St.-Croix has closed and the owners have put the building up for sale. You'll have to mosey a little up or down river to grab a burger in a quaint town.
It has to be the cheapest meal in the city. On January 6, The Old Spaghetti Factory will be celebrating its fortieth anniversary with an almost unbelievable deal: a complete dinner including salad, entree, and dessert for $3. The kids version will go for $2. I have to be totally honest and say that's about as much as I'm willing to pay for the food there.
Keegan's Pub will be hosting the second annual Women's Christmas on Sunday, January 4. In the Irish tradition, men take on the housework for the day while the ladies fill the pubs and exchange gifts with their friends. Finally, a holiday I can fully support. From noon to 4 p.m., Keegan's will be offering the ladies food specials, prize drawings, and a show by Locklin Road.
You'll want to get on this one early. Surdyk's will be hosting a World of Cheese class on January 19th for $45. It's a value when you consider they discuss and explore ten cheeses with a few bottles of wine as accompaniment. The class will be held at Elsie's, so you can bowl off the calories afterward.
