It's freshly festive fun, folks! Tis the last bit of news and fodder that I will provide for you in the glorious 2011. My shopping is done, I've rolled the last bourbon ball, I am ready to soak into a week off and just rule the Monopoly board. I hope you plan on cooking something new or dining somewhere off the beaten path and taking a moment to savor just how lucky we all are to live in such a delicious neck of the woods. Merry merry and all that, I'll be back in 2012!
Colossal Cafe has opened a new outpost in the cutest-ever neighborhood of Como. Do you think they picked location based on cute, what with the name Colossal kinda being a pun on the other store? Dunno. But that neighborhood is now lucky enough to be able to amble in for one of the BEST biscuit egg sammies in the world. Cute.
Sadly, this list gets a bit long at the end of the year.
Il Gatto, yeah? I'm done talking about this one.
Betty's Pies in Mahtomedi will apparently close by the end of the year.
Leaning Tower of Pizza closed the University location, but is still open on Lyndale.
Don't forget that Cafe Twenty-Eight is done at the end of next week, so why not check in one last time.
Well, it looks like chef/GM Rick Kimmes is out at Oceanaire (that man knows more about fish than Ahab, someone snap him up) just as the team prepares to close down the Hyatt location on NYE and move down the street to 6th & Nicollet, where the shiny blue sign went up the other day. Look for a soft opening some time during that first week of January, and I've been teased that it's a whole new look. Whatever, just get me some oysters. And a crabcake.
Make your big plans for the big night that is sparkly spectacular splendiferous New Years Eve! (I have a fond memory of an NYE in my 20's during which I was ditched by friends while party-hopping, so wandered over to Figlio alone and made random friends, kissed some guy for Midnight ... THAT was Figlio).
Saffron has a tasty looking chef's meal planned.
Psycho Suzi's will kill it with a $40 passport good for tiki drinks, nosh, and souvenir tiki mug!
Meritage has a special 10 p.m. celebration seating, you'll want to reserve that soon! If you can't get in, you can always head there for the morning's hair-of-the-dog brunch.
Solera is putting on a two-floor show with acrobats, flame throwers, nosh buffets, and an open bar option. Sounds like a circus (heehee).
Zen Box Izakaya is serving the full menu 'til 1am and next weekend there will be some special dishes: pork belly, torched toro, blue mussels oh my!
